geographic areas that are available for a no-cost Cogent GAPS Livescan are:

Establishing Georgia Applicant
Processing Service (GAPS) Offices
 The Georgia Bureau of
Investigation (GBI) is currently undertaking a move to electronic
submission of fingerprints for Georgia applicants that require
either a State or Federal Criminal History Record check. This new service, Georgia Applicant
Processing Service (GAPS), will be totally electronic and will replace the
need for applicants to submit paper fingerprint cards. GAPS will give non-criminal justice
agencies (public and private) the opportunity to conduct Criminal History
Record searches for applicants quickly and easily. GBI has awarded Cogent Systems the
contract to provide these electronic submission services.
Electronic
submission will involve the use of a Cogent Livescan machine. The Livescan is, essentially, a
sophisticated scanner and personal computer that captures fingerprint
images and demographic data and submits this information to GBI. GBI conducts a search of its criminal
history records using the fingerprint images and also forwards the
information to the FBI where the Federal Criminal History Record search is
conducted. Successful results (no
criminal history) of this search are then transmitted back to the company
or agency that requested the search be completed.
Cogent Systems has initiated a
search for locations in select Georgia cities that would be interested in
partnering with Cogent Systems to provide this service. Cogent Systems provides, at no charge,
ALL of the computer and scanning equipment required to conduct this
service. Cogent provides all
maintenance and assistance for no charge.
Cogent also pays a flat rate fee for each transaction conducted at
these locations.

- Cogent pays the service
site a transaction fee for each applicant that uses the service
- You provide the labor and
internet connection
Fingerprint
service sites (print locations) would be required to provide only the space
for the equipment, the associate(s) to run the transaction and the internet
connection.
This

the time it takes to learn the fingerprint capture process. Cogent Engineers will install the
equipment, train your operators and maintain the equipment in the event
anything ever went wrong. We even
